Florida is one of those places where you never know what to expect weather-wise or even activity-wise. There is such a variety of activities to do there that you need to be prepared for just about anything.
To put it simply, any time you’re going to Florida, regardless of the time of year, you’re going to want to pack the following:
- A Hat
- Shoes that are great for walking
- Loose lightweight clothing
- Your Camera
If you’ve never been to Florida and you’re planning on taking a trip, but you don’t know what to pack, have a look at the things that we came up with this article. It should help you be a little more prepared for your trip.
Florida According to the Seasons
You will have to pay attention to the time of year that you’re going. I’m primarily for the weather. Florida generally has a beautiful year-round climate are a couple of list of things that you’re going to want to pack if you’re making a trip and we broke in it down by winter and summer.
Florida In The Winter
If you are visiting Florida and the wintertime, you will want to bring the following:
Long pants as a necessity in the winter as evening temperatures can dip surprisingly low.
These pants have the look of denim with the functionality of your favorite pants. They are comfortable and sturdy. The material will keep you warm and let your skin breathe for any type of adventure, and are lightweight and easily packed.
You will also need a jacket to help keep you warm, especially if you are visiting along the beaches in northern Florida, where it can get quite chilly.
This jacket by Frogg Togg is an excellent all-weather jacket for both men and women. It is made out of a durable waterproof material and folds for easy packing. This would be an exceptional jacket to take on a trip to Florida.
Even in the winter, the sun can do serious damage to your skin. Be sure to keep a bottle of sunscreen or two on hand, even on cool and cloudy days to help prevent burns.
Socks just make sense to help cushion your feet during long hours of walking tours or standing in line at theme parks. They can also keep your tootsies warm if the temperature dips too low.
These lightweight durable socks are comfortable and are easily packed. They should do a decent job of keeping you warm on chilly mornings and evenings.
It is always a good idea to have a sturdy pair of shoes with you that can handle any activity on your vacation. These unisex shoes by Reebok are an excellent choice!
When lounging by the pool or at the beach, a great pair of sandals is always nice to have. These Crocks are lightweight, durable, comfortable and easily packed. They are also slip-resistant.
Sometimes you need a break from the chill in the air but a jacket will be too heavy. Packing a long sleeve shirt or two is always a good idea.
When the temperature gets too hot you will want a pair of shorts to stay cool! These mesh shorts are great for men as they are fashionable and lightweight.
Whether you wear them alone or underneath other clothing, a good T-Shirt is a must for vacation adventuring. These Champion T’s are comfortable and durable.
If you are taking a trip to Florida you surely won’t want to forget a good pair of shades no matter what time of year. The sun shines down there for over 280 days out of the year meaning there is plenty of time for the beach.
Don’t let those precious memories get away from you. Make sure you bring a camera with you no matter what time of year.
Even if you are on vacation you will still want to stay in contact and have access to social media. Don’t forget to bring your phone with you!
Florida In The Summer
If you are going to Florida in the summertime, the list of things to bring is very similar to what you would need in the winter, with the exception of the clothing. In summer, when temperatures soar, you will want to make sure that you bring plenty of lightweight, breathable clothing to help you stay cool.
While it might not be cold enough to need a full sweatshirt it is always a great idea to have a hoodie. They are lightweight, warm and easy to pack.
- Aloe Vera Gel (for treating any suburns you may get!)
In the event that you get too much sun, you will want to have some of this stuff. It will take the pain right off of your burn and let you continue your vacation.
You will notice that there are many similarities between both of these lists. That is because of the very hospitable climate in Florida. That’s what makes it a beautiful vacation destination. That being said, you should know that in the wintertime temperatures can drop as low as 39 degrees. There are some sections of the state where it does snow. Summer mornings and evenings can also both be chilly, but they are not going to be cold.
Because of its temperature and location, rain is always a possibility in Florida if you’re heading down there in the summertime that also means hurricane season, so you’ll want to be prepared for that.
No matter what time of the year you’re going if you have these items you will probably be in pretty good shape.
What To Pack For A Weekend in Florida
If you are heading down for the weekend, you should pay special attention to what the weather forecast is going to look like. It’s always a great idea to bring a swimsuit to Florida as you won’t want to miss out on the beach or the pool.
Bring some dress clothes in case you want to go out and get fancy. You’re also going to want to bring some walking shoes because there are all kinds of theme parks and other attractions. Be prepared to walk.
What To Pack For Four Days in Florida
If you’re only going to be spending four days down in Florida, you’ll want to make sure that you bring your swimsuit and a few changes of clothing based upon the activities that you want to participate in. While everybody is different, these are just a guideline. You want to bring two to three pairs of shorts, a swimsuit, a pair of dress pants or a nice dress, and clothes that you are comfortable walking in. Don’t forget a great pair of shoes.
What To Pack For 10 Days in Florida
If you’re going to be going to Florida for 10 days or more you may want to double the number of items that were suggested in the previous paragraph. You’re going to want to have several pairs of comfortable but sturdy pants or shorts, a pair of shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, a nice pair of walking shoes, and some dress clothes in case you want to go out and experience the fine attractions. There are many fine restaurants around the state and that means you’re going to want to have some dress shirts or dresses available.
What Are Your Plans?
What are your plans when you are in Florida? Are you going primarily for the theme parks? Are you going to explore nature? You’re certainly going to want to pack hiking boots or acceptable footwear if you’re going to be walking through the Everglades in the swamps.
These women’s hiking boots from Columbia are a great choice for Florida if you are going to be doing a lot of hiking. They are breathable, yet waterproof, and will support your feet and ankles for long treks through the Everglades!
Always be prepared for rain in Florida. The state is notoriously humid, and that results in a good deal of rain, particularly in the summertime. The good news is that even when it rains, it’s not very cold.
Small enough to tuck into your purse or backpack for emergency rain bursts, this adorable Mickey or Minnie Mouse rain poncho will help keep your kiddo dry and comfortable, saving you a trip back to the hotel to change!
Know the Climate
You should always be prepared for the sun while in Florida. Sunburn is a common occurrence on all vacations to Florida. Be sure to pack clothing that’s going to allow your body to stay cool while also keeping the sun’s rays off of your skin for long periods. Be liberal with your sunscreen, and wear your sunglasses frequently.
The cool nights in Florida can be a wonderful time to take a stroll down the beach especially late at night. You can see the phosphorescence out in the ocean, but the evening breeze can be chilly so it never hurts to bring a windbreaker.
