@bianca_velardi MUST SAVE for your next Grand Canyon trip! Although Havasu Falls is arguably one of the most gorgeous falls here, there is another one you may not have heard of! Tucked away off of the North Kabib Trail is a place called Ribbon Falls. This is a long and hard hike but 100% worth it. Round trip it is 16.8 miles with over 5K ft. of elevation gain. Or if you want to make it even longer like I did, you can make it a stop along the way when doing Rim-to-Rim. This route is much harder and ends up being over 25 miles. This hike is no joke and you NEED to come prepared. When we started the hike in the top of the canyon, it was very chilly. But temperatures rise fast and by time we were in the bottom of the canyon, it was 100 degrees out. Make sure to have appropriate LAYERS for the varying temperatures. Carrying enough WATER is imperative and ELECTROLYTES are important to replenish everything you are sweating out. The trail is in full sun so SUNSCREEN is a must. Bring plenty of FOOD because you will be on the trail for many hours. A HEADLAMP and extra batters are important as you might not make it out before dark. First, let's talk about what makes Ribbon Falls so unique.

While many visitors to the Grand Canyon head to Havasu Falls, which is certainly stunning in its own right, Ribbon Falls is a hidden gem often overlooked.

The falls are about 100 feet high, and the mineral-rich water has created a giant spire below the falls.

It's the perfect spot to cool off on a hot day, and the surrounding lush vegetation adds to the otherworldly feel of the area.

Planning Your Hike to Ribbon Falls In The Grand Canyon: Tips for a Memorable Experience

To backpack, you'll need to obtain a backcountry camping permit from Grand Canyon National Park, and it's recommended that you apply for an itinerary that includes Bright Angel Campground or Phantom Ranch.

Alternatively, you can stay at Phantom Ranch for two nights and hike up to Ribbon Falls as a day hike.

The general itinerary for reaching Ribbon Falls is to hike down South Kaibab Trail to Bright Angel Campground or Phantom Ranch on day one, day hike up to Ribbon Falls on the North Kaibab Trail on day two, and hike back up the South Kaibab Trail to the South Rim on day three.

The total mileage of the hike is 16.8 miles with a total elevation change of 9042 feet, so it's essential to come prepared.

Especially since this is now on everyone's bucket list, it's super important to be mindful of the local ecosystem.

Yes, it's fantastic to have droves of people out in nature: but not when it takes a toll on the spot everyone is visiting.

Preparing for the Elements: Tips for Hiking to Ribbon Falls

When embarking on the hike to Ribbon Falls, it's important to prepare for the varying temperatures you'll experience along the way. Starting at the top of the canyon, the chilly air quickly gives way to scorching heat by the time you reach the bottom, often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, it's crucial to wear appropriate layers and bring plenty of water to prevent dehydration. Electrolytes are also necessary to replenish what you sweat out, so make sure to bring enough. As the trail is in full sun, sunscreen is a must to protect your skin from harmful rays.

To sustain your energy throughout the many hours on the trail, bring an ample supply of food. A headlamp and extra batteries are also essential, as there's a chance you won't make it back before dark. And don't forget to pack a bathing suit to take a refreshing dip in Ribbon Falls.
